We commit ourselves to support all who demand justice and equal rights.

Karen E Kennedy, NAS Commercial Property Management

Since early March, we have been working steadfastly to adjust to the uncertainty the pandemic has brought upon us, our families, our clients, our lenders and our tenants. Just as we saw a semblance of the beginnings of a return to normalcy, the tragedy of George Floyd's death swept across the nation. This event, amongst many others just like it, forces us to come face to face with injustice. Ours is a country where racism and discrimination cannot be tolerated. We commit ourselves to support all who demand justice and equal rights.

We are a proud supporter of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Color of Change, The Innocence Project and Equal Justice Initiative. These organizations are dedicated to challenging injustice and holding leaders accountable.

O, let my land be a land where
Liberty is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

— Langston Hughes

Before UTU's involvement, there was a classroom with no doors or windows and a student body of 120; the building was only 24'x40', so the overflow held lessons under a tree in the yard. Three years later with UTU's help, there are 3 building (duplex style) and an admin office, all with doors (lockable), windows concrete floors, desks, chalkboards, and supplies. Recent student body is close to 300... "Build it and they will come."
Mangapasi Primary is roughly 25 miles by dirt road from Mzuzu (town) in the northern Usisya area of Malawi.
The last mile to the school is traversable only with a four wheel drive vehicle. However, they have no vehicles and only a few bicycles, so travel is by foot in general.
In Malawi your progress is measured by your exams & ability. Children 7 years old have been seen learning the same lesson as a 17-year old.
There are six now, with some teachers doubling as administrators.
There is no doubt that one of the greatest gifts given is education, but the greatest impact for this community is the hope they have expressed, "people half-a-world away care about them".
